Of the 1700 families displaced by the disengagement (more than 8,000 people),

• 85% worked in Gush Katif
• 70% of the employed individuals were self employed either in agriculture or other private businesses

A day after the disengagement, they found themselves homeless, disillusioned and unemployed.  Three years after Israel’s withdrawl from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria, 1000 families are still suffering from unemployment or underemployment. 

JobKatif – A Holisitic Approach to Employment
JobKatif is the only organization dedicated to helping former residents of Gush Katif and Northern Samaria find employment, set up businesses and return to self-sufficiency.  JobKatif affirms that given the right support, every Gush Katif evacuee can once again be a financially self sufficient, contributing member of Israeli society.  Towards this end, JobKatif assigns a counselor to every individual who requests help.  Furthermore, counselors reach out and pro-actively seek the unemployed who may not yet have the emotional fortitude to begin again.  Counselors many of whom are themselves evacuees, help individuals overcome the emotional barriers that prevent the unemployed from moving forward.  Counselors then help their clients clarify a professional direction for the future - either seeking employment or opening a business - and refer them to employment or business professionals who will assist them in achieving their new goals.

  JobKatif’s unique approach of outreach, support and faith in the individual has already succeeded in helping over 1000 people return to the workforce.
